What is gemcitabine

Gemcitabine is a novel nucleoside derivative of cytosine.Like cytarabine, it is activated by deoxycytosine kinase and metabolized by cytosine nucleoside deaminase after entering the body.Gemcitabine is a pyrimidine antitumor drug with the same mechanism of action as cytarabine.

Application&Function of gemcitabine

The main metabolite of gemcitabine is mixed with DNA in cells and mainly acts on the G1/S phase.But the difference is that in addition to the incorporation of DNA, difluorodeoxycytidine can also inhibit nucleotide reductase, resulting in the reduction of deoxynucleoside triphosphate in cells;Another difference between cytarabine and cytarabine is that it can inhibit deoxycytopine deaminase to reduce the degradation of intracellular metabolites and has a self-synergistic effect.Clinically, gemcitabine and cytarabine have different anti-tumor profiles and are effective against a variety of solid tumors.
