Timicocin is a relatively new macrolide antibiotics for livestock and poultry, which is semi-synthesized from tallosin. The chemical name is 4A-O- (2, 6-dideoxy-3-C-methyl-L-ribo-pyranhexyl) -20-deoxy-20 - (3, 5-dimethyl-1-piperidyl) - [20 (cis: Trans)] tallosin, molecular formula C46H80N2O13, molecular weight 869.15.

The antimicrobial spectrum of temicocin was similar to that of tylosin, but it was enhanced against Pasteurella multocida and Pasteurella hemolyticus. Developed successfully in the 1980s, it initially used EL-870 as the code name. Commonly used trade names are Pulmotil© and Micotil©. Preparations include Timicox soluble powder, premix (20%) and injection. It was approved in most European countries in 1990, in the United States in 1992, and included in the United States Pharmacopoeia. A number of domestic companies have been approved to produce Temicol.

Due to its special Antibacterial activity and pharmacokinetic characteristics, this drug has been approved for clinical use in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in cattle, goats, sheep, dairy cows, pigs, chickens and other animals.
